We have been so excited that our kids are old enough to bike. There are amazing bike trails through wine country that we MUST explore! We recently bought Ava an Afterburner, so she can ride with mom on a bicycle built for two! She was skeptical (see picture 1). She eventually got on, but screamed and cried to get off (see picture 2). Like EVERYTHING new, there is a learning curve emotionally for her. We left her on the bike screaming with Brien walking beside her holding her arm down our driveway (about a city block long) and back...twice. I think we might need to send an apology to everyone within a mile radius who had to listen to her! We taught her how to get off and congratulated her for doing it. I put the bike(s) away and took off my helmet, but she kept hers on and stated she wanted to do it again! This time, no crying and no dad holding her. Brien and Aiden left to ride their bikes to the grocery store while Ava and I practiced riding up and down the driveway singing "Bicycle Built For Two" the whole way. The last length, we pretended we were racing and "Girl Power" was in first place! When in doubt, do a role play and sing a song, and Ava will do whatever you want. Sigh...:)

As much as the smiling, happy pictures are great, it's the ones like picture #2 that you sometimes just HAVE to take and keep so you can remember these moments. :)

You two are AMAZING parents...oh, the energy you gather to introduce these new experiences to her! :) Great work Sarah and Brien...and to Ava - such an obstacle!! ;)
