Ava's soccer team is called the Sparkling Shooting Stars! As we have been involved with boys soccer for so long, it's interesting to see the difference as we navigate girls soccer for the second year. The first team we played, the Rainbow Unicorns, had color coordinated hair ribbons and matching shoe lace covers. Although I admit it was pretty cute, is this the focus of soccer for girls? The names also crack me up! Aiden had team names like FBZ (Fire Breathing Zombies) while the girls have incredibly shiny girly adjective-laden names. Are these innate differences or are we creating this? It also makes me laugh when the girls sub out and hug each other while jumping up and down excitedly. What? I'm all about hugs, but sub out already and get on with the game! A high five will do! It really is fun to watch the dynamics just as much as the soccer.
Despite all the above, Ava is really enjoying playing again! She is small but oh so mighty on that field. She knows what to do and is aggressive on the field. She will get the ball and take it down the field to shoot or she will cover the goal to play defense (they don't play with goalies at this age), but either way, she's working hard on the field.
